Settlers, snooker, spinning, and… pizza!

It’s been a busy – but relaxing – weekend. I wish it wasn’t over already!

Friday night, Karl and I headed to Sibylle and Jurgen’s after work, for a wicked good home-cooked meal (Goulash, Austrian style!), and some Settlers action. And for once, I won – the first time I’ve done so against those folks!

Sibylle ready for pizza

Saturday started with weights and a spin class at the gym. After burning off all those calories, naturally we headed to Chipotle for lunch. Karl, Kristy and I then headed up to Eastside Billiards for a few rounds of pool. At the end of the four hours or so that we played (!!), it was fairly even pegging, with Karl coming out slightly in front of Kristy and I.

Jurgen was keen for some Settlers revenge, so back we went to S&J’s for the grudge match. To his credit, he beat us all, though Kristy and I were a few beers down so I claim unfair advantage :-) .

Today it has been raining all day. Consequently, it was after 10 before we got out of bed! Anyway, after our last expedition to Di Fara, Kristy was keen to try out the “Best. Pizza. Ever.” so again with S&J we trekked our way out to Brooklyn to get some of those sweet italian pies. This time we managed to almost polish off two whole pizzas between the four of us! Plus, we seemed to do quite well with the time; only just over one hour between ordering and eating.

Since it was still raining when we got back to Manhattan (I told you it was raining all day), it seemed like staying indoors was the way to go. So what better to do than – play more Settlers? Sibylle hosed us all in the first game by cleverly claiming the “Largest Army” card on her final turn – a tactic I was trying to employ for myself! For our second game, we cracked open the Cities and Knights expansion pack. Boy does it add in an extra layer of complexity! But it was most excellent – perhaps made even better by the fact that I won! Heh heh…

Now it’s just gone 11PM and it’s looking like it will be at least another 1/2hr before the lights are out. Nothing like starting the week on a tired note! And, this is going to be a big week – I can just feel it…

That’s a great looking piece of pie – compared to the crap we got from Domino’s last night (might do a story on that one later, but in case I don’t the large pizza has shrunk – they have almost reduced 1/3 in size. Won’t be going back there!)

The Cities and Knights expansion is great, isn’t it! It makes the game slightly more complex because you have to think about more than just building your cities and settlements to win. Add to that you still only have a 7 card limit until you build city walls, making you really think about what your priorities are going to be!
