Talladega Nights

Few actors seem to polarize people’s opinions like Will Ferrell does. Perhaps Adam Sandler, too. And maybe Mike Myers. Ok so there’s a few actors in this category, so whatever – anyway, this is certainly true for Kristy and I; she seems to dislike all of Will Ferrell’s movies, where as I seem to love them!

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby is no exception to this rule. It’s a parody about a NASCAR racer who was “born to go fast”, and lives by only one rule: If you ain’t first, you’re last. Oh, and he is somewhat of a redneck. Anyway, Bobby’s career and entire life is put in jeopardy when he is injured in a devastating crash during a race. After recovering, he vows to become number one again, and during his climb to the top, he realises what is really important in life.

Trust me, it’s funny. Ferrell does a wicked good job at playing a redneck. I found the grace that he says at dinner near the start of the movie especially funny; some of the things he is thankful for are downright hilarious. And his justification of why he insists on praying to “little baby Jesus” as opposed to “adult Jesus” is just classic!

But surprisingly, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea – for example, Kristy much preferred her chamomile. But since I’m the one writing the review, this movie gets a gerrod.com rating of 8/10. Shake ‘n bake!
