On Wednesday night we were delighted to catch up with Julian and Shelley, buddies from Bris who moved to London just six weeks ahead of us, and watch the second Origin match at the oh-so-classy Walkabout pub in Putney.

With the help of some great advice from Julian’s cousin-in-law Fred, we arrived an hour early and secured the last available table, which meant that we could watch the game in comfort, rather than squishing into the mosh-pit style front room. It was an exciting game with lots of oohing and aahing, laughing at each other for oohing and aahing, and friendly rivalry between the NSW and QLD fans. Fortunately, all four of us were loyal to the maroons, despite Shelley having been born in Tweed Heads.

It was a really fun night, and great to see some old friends again. For the first time in a long time it seems that we have different friends to catch up every night of the week! And we couldn’t be happier about it.

The only downer is the tools that smoke inside pubs. I had forgotten – again – how lovely it was to have smoking banned in public places in New York and Brisbane. I’m not a big fan of going home smelling like a retired lung.

But the good news is that London (/UK/EU??) is bringing in the no smoking law starting 1st of July, woohoo!
