One day in Hong Kong

I totally loved Hong Kong! Next trip there will have to be for more than one day – I think you’d need at least three just to do the shopping justice!

John very kindly took the day off work to chauffeur me around. I hadn’t seen John since 1998! Luckily in the age of digital cameras, we had exchanged photos beforehand, although I didn’t think he had changed too much (on the other hand, he said that I looked completely different – who’d have thought?!)

Unfortunately on the food front, I couldn’t find anywhere close to the hotel that was open for breakfast, so I was stuck with McDonalds. Worse still, the girl didn’t understand my order of “two sausage muffins with egg”, and instead gave me two sausage muffin meals – complete with two hash browns and two cokes!

Anyway, high on my priority list was shopping, as I had heard that Hong Kong was cheap for clothes. Things weren’t looking up when we checked in at a Diesel store to find that jeans were around AUD$300 a pair! However, once we left the major globalised brands aside, things really started looking up. In the end, I picked up about 6 new shirts and some new pants, all very good quality and all for about AUD$100. Nice!

Slick had also informed me that camera accessories would be cheap, and sure enough they were – even cheaper than in America in most instances! I restrained myself and only bought one lens, though I could have easily bought another two.

As well as shopping, I wanted to see a bit of the city, and so John took me on a ferry ride across the harbour.

I couldn’t believe how huge the buildings were! Unfortunately the rain prevented me from taking too many photos. Thankfully though, the rain eased up towards dusk, and by 8PM when the city’s light show was on, the weather was actually quite pleasant!

The light show was spectacular! John’s wife, Crystal, had phoned a tourist advisory service to find the best vantage point, so we parked ourselves there for the show and grabbed a few happy snaps.

All too quickly my day came to an end, though I didn’t manage to get to bed until about 11:30PM. Worse still, I had to wake up at 4AM to make a super early trip out to the airport – only to find out when I got there that the plane was delayed by two hours! D’oh!

WOW! That looks amazing, and would have felt so much safer/easier with local escorts. Off to look at the album now!
