To help celebrate the Christmas spirit, my work bought a whole bundle of tickets for us to go ice skating at the Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park. I figured that I’d reached my quota of ice skating sessions as an adult – two – and so originally declined the invitation. But, since heaps of people from my team were going, I changed my mind at the last minute, and put my hand up for a ticket.
And what a fun time it turned out to be! Firstly, the skates were not only comfy, well designed, and great looking, but best of all, they were fantastic performers – the straps never came undone, even under heavy pressure! Yes, I’m absolutely kidding, the skates were terrible – ill fitting, uncomfortable, unreliable, and – bright orange. Yummy!
But, that’s really all I could complain about. (Well actually, they also lost my shoes when I finished, and I eventually had to go around to the other side of the counter to find them – another 15 minutes of my life I won’t get back…) Seriously though – it was great fun! Oh, except that they let about a brazillion people onto the rink in each one hour session, which makes it rather difficult to manoeuvre around.
Ok, ok, seriously – there were a heap of things to whinge about – but it really was great fun. Nick, who was mainly responsible for dragging me along, turns out to quite the Torvill and/or Dean – I dunno which one was the bloke. Anyway, he managed to make his skates work somewhat better than I could do with mine, including pulling off some backwards action and jumps! Very impressive.
Unfortunately, I didn’t take my camera, so the only photos I got were on my poor little camera phone – and still those orange boots came shining through… !
