Happy Australia Day!

This was our first Australia Day in London, so it was party time! We celebrated by filling up the bathtub with ice and a variety of drinks, then inviting pretty much all the Australians that we know to come and party with us.

Drinks in the tub

Our party kicked off at 10 AM, when we also kicked off our replay of the Triple J Hottest 100. Luckily, Bender was astute enough to work out we were playing the Hottest 100 from 2006 on the very first song! We quickly changed to the right stream and all was well again. Glad we didn’t work it out around the half-way point!

The party continued well into the afternoon, then the evening, and finally into the wee hours of the morning – with the only break being a few hours off for lunch at Ground (my brunch burger was especially awesome). Our countdown finished around 9 PM and I think most of us were happy with the winning song. And, to continue on with the musical theme, a few of us even rocked out with some SingStar action!

People came and went all day – I think at the peak we had about 20 people here, most of whom started and finished the day with us. Asides from the folks that stayed, the lasts guests left around 2 AM on Sunday morning, so it’s safe to say we squeezed every last bit out of Australia Day that we possibly could.

And to top off such an awesome party with a fantastic bunch of friends, Shelley and Julian (who had stayed over in The Lewis Room) made us crepes in the morning!

I wasn’t sure that an Australian ‘Australia day’ could be topped… We sure proved that it’s not the location that counts. The great Aussie spirit lives on.

Unfortunately, that’s about the only Aussie beer you can (easily) get here :-|
