You’ll never guess what I did today…

I drove a bendy bus! Call it a weird job perk, but I was let loose on an obstacle course in a flooded carpark to try my hand at driving.

Some of you may remember my old car – a Daewoo Lanos. Those beasts are a little over 4 metres long. So with all that experience, and having driven almost twice-weekly when I lived in Australia three years ago, I thought: I’ve got what it takes! Hand me that high visibility vest and lets get this show on the road!

So off I went in my 18-metre Mercedes-Benz articulated bus. That’s right, four and a half Lanos’ long. My first question (which naturally terrified the instructor) was: The brake is on the left, right?

Don’t worry: no animals, colleagues or gearboxes were harmed in the making of this blog.

But I surprised myself with my style, finesse, and all-round coolness. That is, until it came time to reverse. Did you know it’s possible to get the front portion and the back portion pointing in entirely different directions? It sure is, and I even proved it was possible!

After that I consoled myself that bus drivers really aren’t supposed to reverse on London’s streets anyway. But who am I kidding? Maybe I should just face the fact that driving is not the job for me. So it’s back to the job-hunting drawing board!

whoa-ah… when did this happen. I can’t believe I know someone who has driven a bus, and a bendy bus at that. You have earned some serious cool points Kristy! I have some catching up to do.

hehe that’s great Perhaps you could drive a non bendy vehicle next…like a tractor, or a cement truck. Hmm so much more fun out there to be had!

That’s so cool. Definitely not something that you’d get to experience everyday.

Well done!
