Goldilocks and the three toilet cubicles

I always thought Goldilocks was a bit too fussy (especially for a thief) but I’m starting to see her point of view. It seems that every time I go to a public bathroom I have what I’ve started to think of as “a Goldilocks moment”.

A perfect example is a recent trip to the Town Hall bathrooms down in Croydon. I was there for a work meeting and decided to brave the local loos. How bad can bathrooms at a Town Hall be?

I entered the first stall, locked the door and noticed that the toilet was clogged up. Yuck. Unlock door, try next stall. Turn and lock door, reach for toilet paper to line the seat. Empty. Sigh deeply, unlock door, try the next stall. Quick inspection reveals functioning loo and full TP dispenser. Looking good so far. Turn to lock door. No lock.

And just like the original Goldilocks story there are only three options. I picked door number three. I was already there and figured I could make do with an impromptu foot-on-door locking mechanism.

The worst thing is that I’m sure if there was a fourth stall… it would have had no seat.

The third toilet cubicle is supposed to be “just right” in a Goldilocks fable … but then this was not a fable but real life.
