Jimmy Eat World

Rounding off “concert month” was Jimmy Eat World, once again at Carling Academy in Brixton. This is the first time I’ve been there and not stood though – on one hand it was good to see what the place is like from the balcony, but on the other hand… sitting there sucks! Firstly it’s unreserved so we had to get there early to get good seats (instead of walking in just before the main act, like we usually do); and secondly, in all the good seats (first five or so rows), your view is (partially) blocked by a huge “safety bar” running along the front! And lets be honest – I have no idea who they’re trying to kid, that bar ain’t saving anyone.

So you’re also probably thinking, “hey, I can’t see no bar, what you talking about Thomas?!” – but I went to the liberty of holding my hand up to get the shot (no doubt to the disgust of the dudes behind me whose view I was blocking). And then, I photoshopped out the bit of the bar that I did get.

Anyway, seating gripes aside – Jimmy Eat World played a great set, including all my favourite songs from their new album, plus lots of crowd pleasing favourites. Predictably, they went out on a high note after a huge encore, finishing up with their biggest hit, “The Middle“.

So in summary, Jimmy Eat World are awesome, the entree band sucked, don’t get seats at Brixton, and if you want to read a review by someone with a bit more focus, check out Pat’s take on the gig.
