Legend has it that meat night originated over concerns for the partners of vegetarians, and their lack of opportunity for eating meat. Since then it’s grown in to a festival of meat, taking us all around the city in search of the best meat restaurants for us to indulge all of our meat desires.
I’m not sure why we didn’t think of going to a Brazilian barbeque – churrascaria – earlier, as it’s really the ultimate location for meat lovers. So last night, we tried out Rodizio Rico up in Angel, and overall, it was a very favourable experience.
If you’ve never been to a churrascaria before, basically what happens is that you sit at a table and wait for waiters to come around. Each waiter carries a different type of meat – more often than not, a rare cut of beef on a skewer – and they’ll offer it to you simply by saying, “Prime Rib?” (for example). The meat is then cut straight on to your plate for you to enjoy. It’s oh-so tender, and oh-so good!
Rodizio Rico lived up to all of our expectations, and by the end of it I think most of us had hit the meat wall. On reflection, perhaps I should have eaten a little salad, but at the time, it seemed like heresy.
