Pub Quiz

One thing which is huge in London, that we really don’t take enough advantage of, is pub quizzes. We noticed when we moved to Putney that our local favourite, The Jolly Gardeners runs one every Tuesday night, starting at 8 PM; so this week, Julian, Shelley and I tried our hat, or our hand, or tipped our hand – whatever that expression is…

Unfortunately, my knowledge of common expressions such as the last one, is fairly representative of my general knowledge in… err… general. You’ll no doubt be surprised to learn that we did not come first, nor second, not even third! Still, I thought our ranking of fourth was quite respectable, even though Quizzy McQuizmaster termed it “third last” which sounds much less successful.

We really lucked out because (a) we have no TV reception and hence have never seen I’m a celebrity, get me out of here, and (b) we don’t know a lot about English sporting teams. So, fourth place really was quite an achievement, I think!

It was overall a lovely way to spend an evening, enjoying a quiet ale or two with friends and participating in some friendly competition. We’re aiming for top three next time; who knows, one day we might even win the thing!

You’re Boggle fans too? No one appreciates the genius of Boggle over here. Lonely place to be…. sigh.

I think you’ll have to start watching trashy telly or at least read some of those terrible celebrity magazines to get in the top three, but good luck!
