It’s been a little quieter than usual on the blog front lately, because we’ve been spending all our free time hunting for new flats! Yes, after 15 months of being team Barbeque Chicken, the Putney deli is dividing us up into halvies, with chips on the side.
Kristy and I managed to find ourselves a place back in our old hood of Chiswick (just across the road from Gunnersbury tube station, for those of you in the know). It’s a two bedroom flat in a purpose built block, which means it has proper heating, excellent water pressure, and double glazed windows – all the things which anyone that’s lived in London would look for in a flat! We’re also excited to be so close to the M4 (the main highway out of London), as now that we have a car, we’re doing many more weekend road trips out of town.
As you’ve probably guessed, this is the lounge. The doors open out on to… well, nothing, actually, but if there was to be a balcony in the place, that’s probably where they would have put it.
This is the main bedroom. The mattress feels soft and cushy!
And, the second bedroom. The mattress here doesn’t feel quite as good as the one in the main room. Still, nice to have a second room for guests, plus for extra storage!
We got the keys on the weekend, however our current lease doesn’t end until the end of the month so we’re moving out in stages. Most of our stuff has been moved across now, but we still have a few things to grab from Putney.
We actually met the landlord and the previous tenants on Saturday too. The landlord seems pretty laid back, and the previous tenants gave us a run-down of the pros and cons of the place (mainly pros, except that the oven is a bit crap. Damn!). Unfortunately, the landlord didn’t insist on a proper cleaning when the previous tenants left, so although the flat was tidy, it wasn’t particularly clean – the cupboards were dirty, there was dust everywhere, and the shower curtain was beyond saving.
Of course, the bad part of all this was that we had to spend a few hours on Saturday afternoon going around the place with rubber gloves on, but since the flat was empty, this wasn’t too difficult. It also meant that we had to make a trip out to Ikea on Sunday morning in order to pick up a new shower curtain (as well as other things!), but that’s all sorted now too. And on the upside, it means we don’t have to spend much time or money cleaning up after ourselves when we’re on our way out!
Anyway, we’ll finish off moving over the coarse of this week, but until we get the internet hooked up at the new place, updates may be a little slow. Apologies in advance – I just know you’re all hanging off my every word
.

aaaah hopefully you can just relax and enjoy soon guys
That can’t be the shower curtain the other people used is it? No wonder people in London are so unhealthy! Nice digs though.
[...] We really wanted to get a new shower curtain as well because the current one is disgusting. It’s original colour is white and it is definitely a very gross brown and yellow with lots of black moldy spots on it. It looks like curtain wearing a really ugly spotty skirt. The thing I don’t understand is that 4 other people live comfortably with that gross curtain hanging in their bathroom. I don’t even feel like this is ‘my’ place and I know I have to replace it because I cannot live in filth. Now, this isn’t an actual picture of my shower curtain but it might as well be – ours is just as bad. Photo courtesy of Gerrod [...]
