The weekend sausage sizzle in the Bunnings carpark is just about as traditional as it gets here in Australia.
It’s a good little revenue raiser for whatever the feature charity happens to be running the show that day. This Father’s Day just gone, Mom and Dad gave up their morning to do the early shift down at the Stafford Bunnings, in support of Aspleycare.
But of course, giving up their time is only half the story; Kristy and I also gave up our time to go down and buy a sausage – with onions, of course! And it was gooooood! Actually it was very convenient that Dad was manning the grill, as it made it easier to get his opinion on which screws I should buy in order to hold my desk together.
In the end, we walked away about $70 poorer, and though I’d like to say it all went to charity, it mostly went into Bunnings’ pocket. So from their point of view, the system definitely works – though Mom reports that profits weren’t too bad for Aspleycare, either.

They call it win-win, right? Fabulous.
I think they call it “win-WIN” where Bunnings are the big winners
Man I miss sausage sizzle!!! Bah! Now I am mega hungry just thinking about it.
