I dug a hole!

Actually, over the past few weekends, Dad and I have dug many a hole to put fence posts in. The fence between our yard and the neighbour’s up the hill was full of termites – or at least, it had been at some point in time, but they’ve seemingly all moved on to woodier pastures.

Anyway, replacing the fence has been a project on the cards since before we arrived back in Australia – in fact, the fence materials had moved into the house well before we did. Last weekend, Dad, Jason and I kicked things off by ripping out the old fence, tidying up the mess a little (including Jason proudly hacking down half a tree with a mattock), and putting up the first segment of fence. This weekend, Dad and I continued on, and have managed to put up three more segments.

It’s hard work! Well, it is for me anyway, as – surprisingly! – my many years of software engineering experience hasn’t really counted for much in the way of breaking apart concrete with a crowbar. But no complaints – I really enjoy doing outside work, as it’s such a big change from sitting behind a desk. I guess it’s the same reason why I quite enjoy mowing the yard – also, for the guilt-free beer that I enjoy consuming afterwards :-) .

Nice hole. Fence looks good too. Great work. I’ll have a beer to celebrate.
