Backyard Blitz

Most of last Sunday (as well as a good chunk of Saturday) was one again spent in the backyard, with one main goal: to clear out the ever growing pile of garden waste that had been occupying the back corner of the yard since we moved in.

The pile to clear

Originally this was one bigger, more impressive pile, but on Saturday afternoon, Dad and I divided it into two – the “small stuff” (left) and the “big stuff” (right). At the very least, my aim on Sunday was to clear the “big stuff” pile, and there was only one way it was going to happen: with the aid of a trailer.

Trailer

Mom rightly pointed out that it looked more like a horse trailer than a garden trailer, but we needed as much space as we could get. Unfortunately, since our driveway is so steep, there was no way we would have been able to reverse the trailer up, so instead we had to cart everything from the very back of the yard out to the front.

I had originally thought that I’d be able to do everything myself, but thank goodness Dad came around to help – I had grossly underestimated how much stuff was there! I had figured that one run to the tip would have been enough with a trailer that big, but we managed to fill it up twice!

The first truck load of stuff

Suffice to say we were pretty exhausted by the end of it all, but I couldn’t let the job get only partially finished – so I rounded out the day by mowing the lawn as well. And it was all totally worth it – look how awesome the backyard looks now!

Result!

Even the puppies were impressed (and they had a blast running around our feet all day)!

That’s why we don’t have a yard! :) End result looks great though!

Welcome to my world! Feels awesome when it’s done tho, just a shame it doesn’t last long before it starts to accumulate again. Darn palm trees!!!

Yah, dead right about those palm trees – some of them are big enough to fill the wheelie bin on their own!!
