Fish ‘n Chips at Wynnum

Walking at Wynnum

To get a bit of perspective on this whole Northside vs Southside thing, we decided to head down to Wynnum for some Fish ‘n Chips with the Threebies, plus the Donnachies (who don’t have a blog, or if they do, I don’t know what it’s address is. You’ll just have to take my word for it that they’re cool, even though they live on the southside). Kristy, Oscar and I even headed down early, to walk along the bay and take in the the beautiful Autumn weather.

We grabbed our fish ‘n chips from Pelican’s Nest By the Bay, as recommended by Stu. It wasn’t the cheapest fish ‘n chips in the world, but it was really, really delicious! Their salt and pepper calamari was particularly good; I could have eaten about 600 of them!

I have to admit, despite being on the southside and hence technically inferior, I was very impressed with what we saw of Wynnum! I really liked the wading pool there too, and I’ll bet that’s rather popular in the summertime. Some of the houses along the shore looked amazing; I dare-say they’d sell for quite a packet – which is a pity, as I think it would be a lovely place to live, and I’d quite enjoy just heading down to the bay for a spot of fishing.

Don’t be fooled, if you care to take out a map, Wynnum is actually NORTH of the CBD, perhaps that’s what makes it acceptable?

Hmm… north of the city, and yet south of the river… perhaps it should be known as, “The Neutral Zone”?

Ah, the Pelican’s Nest. As kids, that’s where the Lewises longed to be taken, and ever-so-rarely were.

As for ‘north of the CBD’, that just goes to show what a pitiful grip I have on Brisbane’s geography.

I agree that Wynnum is lovely, but I certainly couldn’t live out so far and commute to the city every day (although I know quite a few people who do so it must be worth it!). And I believe it’s called ‘Bayside’ which may help your debate about north and south!
