For a bit of after work fun last week, Ben and I met up with Ian and recently-returned-to-Australia McHoeft, at The Archive Beer Botique at West End.
West End is one of those suburbs which has always been a bit of a mystery to me. I know it’s trendy, sure, and every time I go there I’m impressed by how laid back it is, and how much variety there is in terms of cafes, bars and restaurants. And yet, it never seems to be very busy! Where are the crowds? I’m not sure if their absence is because I’m visiting on generally untrendy nights, or perhaps that I’m visiting at the untrendily early hour of 7 PM. Or, maybe the trendy people look at the bars that I visit and with a scornful tone think, “The Archive Bar? That was so last month.”
Whatever.
Wednesday nights is a huge bonus for visiting Archive, as they run a two-for-one special on their meals. I especially like that for each of their meals, they suggest which beer would best compliment the dish. I chose to ignore their advice completely, and stuck with the James Squire Sundown Larger. A very nice drop indeed!

The crowds are on Hardgrave Rd at West End of an evening! We eat there quite regularly (cheap & cheerful Vietnamese at Quan Thanh), although parking is difficult and the restaurants are always packed!
