The second annual general meeting of The Ham Society took place this past weekend, at a delightful house just outside of Boonah – which of course was renamed to “Boonaham” for the weekend.
The views from the house across the Scenic Rim was amazing – certainly one of the most spectacular views I’ve woken up to, and a rather pleasant backdrop for a BBQ breakfast.
We took a drive to Cunningham Gap and walked some of the nature trails there, but each one was a bit too long to conquer at an almost-two-year-old’s pace. So, we headed back to the holiday house for a nap, and then we built ourselves a fire – perfect for roasting some ham! And it was delicious – even Oscar kept asking for “more ham”!
We also sampled some of Boonah Butchery’s ham offerings, after seeing them boasting about their smokehouse cured ham and bacon. But it was a total letdown – far too salty for our liking. It will not be making it to the “Recommendations” page of the Ham Society!
Still, one serving of sub-standard ham did little to ruin our otherwise spectacular weekend; hopefully we can make it back in that direction again soon!
