Kristy booked tickets for Steam Train Sunday months ago; so long ago in fact, that when we arrived to go on said steam train, we found that our seats were in the carriage all the way at the front! Lucky we had a window seat, because otherwise we may not have been able to lean out the window and wave at people!
(Of course, we only did this while the train was safely parked in the station!)
Our ride started at Roma Street and headed south, doing a loop from Moorooka to Sherwood, then back up towards the city via Indooroopilly. Once we were back on the safe side of the river (the north side, of course), we did another loop out to Newstead, then back to Roma Street. The site of the train was obviously a novelty because everyone on the platforms would stop to look, take photos, or wave as we came past!
Oscar loved the ride, but one thing we had not anticipated was this:
In retrospect we really should have seen it coming; the carriage was comfortably warm, and the gentle rocking of the train back-and-forth was very soothing. I almost joined in having a nap myself! But it wasn’t a total loss; Oscar woke up just before we started heading through the train stations, which meant he still got to maximise his waving opportunities.
After our trip on the steam train, we joined up with Levi (Oscar’s friend from swimming, and fellow steam train passenger), his family and friends to celebrate Levi’s second birthday! Appropriately, it was a train themed birthday, though it was a train of a different kind.
The kids had a great time running up and down the hills at Roma Street parkland, making their parents chase them the whole time! Actually it’s really lovely in there, full of lots of great places for kids to adventure through. We should really visit more often.
All in all, a fantastic Sunday morning!
