Newsflash: Conrad bagged a movie.

August 2nd, 2004

As witnessed by Bender and I at lunchtime today, Conrad did something that we previously thought was impossible: he gave a movie a bad wrap. Up until now, every movie that Conrad has ever seen (and reviewed for our benefit) has rated quite highly, including Bulletproof Monk and Terminator 3.

But The Chronicles of Riddick was the straw that broke the camel’s back. “Movies like that need to be about 4 hours long to get everything done that they’re trying to achieve. But it doesn’t work. I mean, the idea was good, but the movie was just terrible”. Nice work, PK. With reviews like that, I reckon you’ll soon be working for The Movie Show. Look out, David!

Lunch at Garden City

You can’t beat the club sandwiches at lunch at Kafe Neo at Garden City. PK got this candid shot of Bender and me (mid-sandwich).

Not the stationary cupboard.

For some reason, people seem to think that my desk is the stationary cupboard. Pens that are on my desk always seem to go missing after at most a week. I suspect it’s because the only phone in our cube is next to my desk, and people want to write stuff down when they’re on the phone. Also, Conrad is a renowned pen thief.

Maybe I need a sign – “For all your stationary needs, please see Leisa”. However, with the nazi stationary policies in place here, I suspect that people’s dreams of fluid new pens would go unfulfilled, and they’d end up nicking one off my desk anyway.

Night 2: Failure

Last night I went to my first Gold Coast .NET User Group meeting. The talk was presented by Joseph Cooney, on the topic of code generation. Pretty interesting I admit, but nothing super new.

Konrad at BP

So last night I stayed down at Suz & Al’s house. Actually the primary reason for the trip was to catch up with Suz & Al, more-so than attend the the user group meeting! Unfortunately, staying in a foreign bed is never good the first night, so I didn’t sleep well. The sleeping drugs provided by the naturopath failed again too, as I still woke up at 4:07am. Surprisingly though I’m not feeling tired (yet) – must have been the killer coffee that Al made me this morning.

Konrad picked me up this morning for the dreaded drive into IDT, and we stopped off at the BP on the way through for some chow. It’s such an exciting life that I lead.

Early Start

Konrad snug as a bug in a rug

It was an early start this morning, to go and pick up Konrad from Brisbane airport. He had flown back from Darwin, after spending a surprise weekend up there visiting family and friends. Unfortunately, the only flight that Virgin offers from Darwin to Brisbane comes in at 5:45am.

Anyway, Konrad wasn’t expecting me, so he was all smiles when he saw me at the arrivals gate. As you can see, he was even happier to get back home for a couple hours sleep before work. And nothing tops the “Welcome back Konrad” breakfast cooked by Bender and Netty. Still, it’s going to be a looooooonnnnnng day…

Zed Warz II

Zed Warz II

Looking for something to do tomorrow night? Radio station 4zzz are hosting Zed Warz II. If you’re in to supporting local talent, head on down to The Waterloo Hotel to see some awesome local bands. Included in the line-up are such greats as Knaw and Lynchmada.

Now just a quick clarification. Talking to world famous Lynchmada guitarist Conrad yesterday, I found out why the event was actually called “Zed Warz”. I mean, obviously the “Zed” is because it’s hosted by 4zzz. But what about the Warz part? Here I was thinking that the show would eventually turn into a big jelly wrestle, with all bands competing for the title of ultimate champions. As it turns out, it’s just a way of promoting the different styles of music – Punk v Metal v Rock. Which is still cool, I suppose – but it’s not jelly wrestling. It’s not even mud wrestling!

Anyway – no doubt it will still be an awesome show. Entry is only 12 well-spent dollars!

Flag It!

March 12th, 2004

Where oh where would we be without Conrad? We certainly wouldn’t have such great expressions as, Flag It, Yer, Nar, New School, and Old School. He has certainly enriched everyone’s lives with his worldly wisdom and zany sayings.

Anyway, because I was sick today, I had to flag everything. Work – flag it. Gym – flag it. Ride – flag it. Dinner with Kristy – flag it. Here’s hoping that I’m healthier tomorrow for an afternoon with The Durhams.
